The Music!

Track 1: "Waltz of Paree" by Alma Cogan.
Length: 3:16
Year: 1952
Language: English
I found this song relatively late and I was quite sceptical that this was by Cogan because her voice sounds so much deeper than her later songs. Nonetheless I think it's her. This is such a wondrefully, nostalgia-inducing song even though I've never been to Paris. It's a waltzy song, about a woman reminscing about when she first fell in love. There's a guy that sings halfway through. His voice reminds me of the Prince from Disney's Sleeping Beauty... at least that kind of vibe. This song took a little while to grow on me, but it's now firmly one of my favourites.

Track 2: "My Love My Love" by Alma Cogan.
Length: 2:37
Year: 1953
Language: English
This song almost sounds like a lullaby with its soothing, paced, orchestral melody and Cogan's calming and clear voice. It's a very pretty, slightly sad-sounding love song.

Track 3: "I Can't Tell A Waltz From A Tango" by Alma Cogan.
Length: 2:25
Year: 1954
Language: English
This is the first song I've ever heard from Cogan, and in fact, this is a reupload (the first time I featured this song here was in April 2004). This is an upbeat song, tango-ish, about the protagonist who has such a crush on the person she's dancing with, that she completely forgets her dance steps. CUTE!

Track 4: "Dreamboat" by Alma Cogan.
Length: 1:46
Year: 1955
Language: English
Cogan's voice is so suited to singing happy, upbeat songs! This is another silly love song that's catchy and plain adorable!

Track 5: "Twenty Tiny Fingers" by Alma Cogan.
Length: 2:40
Year: 1955
Language: English
This song is about a couple who has twins and the lifestyle changes they have to go through. I know, I know, odd subject to sing about. But believe me, regardless of whether you like children or not (I'm the latter), this is an incredibly cute, catchy and funny song. I love Cogan's bubbly voice so much! The internet tells me that apparently this song is well suited to "Quickstep" dance style.

Track 6: "Please Mr. Brown" by Alma Cogan.
Length: 2:06
Year: 1957
Language: English
One of my favourites from Cogan. This is an adorable tango song, about a female tango instructor who's constantly being hit on by her students. Cogan's signature almost-laughter voice is very much present here, and the tango music is notably dramatic sounding. I couldn't find the lyrics to the song at all, so I listened close to the song (thankfully Cogan's voice is clear) and I've made them available here.

Track 7: "Sugartime" by Alma Cogan.
Length: 1:45
Year: 1958
Language: English
So sugary (hence the name I guess :P)! Kinda similar to "Dreamboat" in terms of upbeatness. This is a fabulously little upbeat song about the protagonist's love. Nothing too spectacularly in terms of lyrics, but it's a quick and fun. :3

Permanent: "Spin" by Darren Hayes.

The namesake of this site, as well as the name of the album. I don't know why he didn't release this song, it's the best song on the album. The words used in this layout come from the song and as you probably realise the song is about music. The lyrics are insightful and the music is upbeat and catchy.
